Random Progressive Online Casino Jackpots

January 23, 2010

For many online players progressive jackpot online slot games are the reason for wagering. Fixed payouts do not interest them. They like to see the progressive jackpot amount increasing as they wager, hoping that they will be the recipient of the hit.

Usually the hit takes place when five of the designated symbol appears in an enabled payline. The reels in slot games stop one by one starting from Reel 1. Players can see if the designated symbol is lining up as desired. Imagine the excitement if four symbols have lined up in an active payline and Reel 5 is still spinning. Adrenalin levels crash through the roof. Though this situation lasts for a fraction of a second it seems an eternity.

Of late another type of progressive jackpot has become popular. This in online gambling parlance is called the randomly triggered progressive jackpot. As in the earlier case the player can see the jackpot amount increasing as he wagers. But he does not have to get any particular combination on the reels in order to secure a hit. There is no build up. The knock out punch comes when least expected. After any spin is complete the slot can announce that the progressive jackpot has been won. Though no conditions have been set for hitting the random progressive jackpot players must keep one factor in mind. The software has been so programmed that the chance of the random jackpot being hit is more for larger wagers.

Two online gaming software developers have been instrumental in popularizing the random progressive jackpot by incorporating it in a large number of their slot games. One is Realtime Gaming. Realtime Gaming launched a new series of online slots called Real Series Video Slots. One of the highlights of the games in this series was the random jackpot. That these slots had interesting themes and great animations and graphics led to their popularity and therefore to the popularity of the random jackpots as well. Some of the slots in the Real Series with random jackpots are Cleopatra’s Gold, Enchanted Garden and T-Rex. Some of the newer games in the Real Series like Triple Twister and Wok & Roll have a two level random jackpot. Cryptologic is the other online gaming software provider that has popular games with random jackpots. Such jackpots are available in its Rapid Fire series of online slots. This series is so named because the random jackpots hit very frequently. Hot Summer Nights, Dolphin King and Northern Lights are some of the slots game in this series. The Marvel Comics series also have a random jackpot, which is a three level jackpot.

A few years ago Microgaming introduced a progressive jackpot that combined the surprise of the random jackpot with the excitement of being able to watch if the big hit is being made or not. The slot game was Mega Moolah which had a four level progressive jackpot. A bonus round leading to the progressive jackpot is randomly triggered in the same way as described earlier. Once this round is triggered players are assured of one of the four jackpots. The big question is whether they will win the Mini jackpot of $10+ at the lowest end or the Mega jackpot of $1 million plus at the highest end. There is a wheel with four different colored bands for the different jackpots. The Mega jackpot is represented by a solitary white band and players wait with bated breath to see if the wheel will stop at the white band making them richer by at least a million dollars.
