Unusual Online Casino Card Games

June 24, 2009

When online casino card games are mentioned, blackjack and baccarat readily come to mind. Two other card games that are not as popular, but still frequently played, are Caribbean stud poker and Pai Gow poker. However beyond this there are several other card games that are offered by online casinos. It is worth checking out these games whether or not you ultimately decide to play them. Some of these games are discussed in this article.

Red Dog is a game between the player and the dealer just like other online casino card games. It is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The player first places his bet and then two cards are dealt to him. If the cards are consecutive cards or pairs then the bet is tied. However in the case of pairs a third card is dealt and if it forms a trio then the player is paid out at 11 to 1. In the initial two cards are neither consecutive cards nor pairs the player has the option to raise his bet. A third card is then dealt. If this card does not lie between the two first cards the player loses. However if the third card lies between the first two cards then the player is paid out according to the pay table. If the spread was one the payout is 5 to 1. If the spread was two the payout is 4 to 1. If the spread was three the payout is 2 to 1. If the spread was four or more the payout is 1 to 1.

Casino War is a simple game played with six standard decks. To start with the player places the ante bet. The player and the dealer are dealt one card each. If the player's card is higher ranked then he wins and is paid out at even money. If the dealer's card is higher ranked then the player loses his bet. If the cards are tied then the player can either forfeit half is wager or go to war. In the second case he raises his bet and one card is dealt to each again. In this case if the player's card is lower ranked then he loses both bets. If his card is higher ranked then he is paid out at even money. If there is a tie then the player gets paid out at 2 to1. At the beginning of the game the player can place a tie bet that pays out at 10 to 1 if the first two cards are tied.

Texas Hold'em simulates the popular poker game. The player places his ante bet and both the player and the dealer get two cards each. The player can surrender is ante bet and fold. Or he can place a bet equal to twice the ante bet and see the flop. If he thinks he has a winning hand he can raise or he can check and see the turn. The same process is repeated for the river. After all the cards are on the table the player's and the dealer's hands are compared in the usual poker manner. If the player wins with a straight or better then all bets pay even money. If the player wins with a lower hand then the ante bet is a push and the other bets pay even money.

The basic games have been described in this article. Different online gaming software providers like Microgaming and Cryptologic offer different variations of the above online casino card games.
