Level Up Video Poker in Microgaming Online Casinos

October 21, 2009

In 2008 Microgaming introduced a new format of video poker games in its online casinos. This format was given the name Level Up Video Poker. So far five video poker variants have been launched by Microgaming in this format. These are Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Aces and Faces, Double Joker and Joker Poker.

This format is known as Level Up because four hands are played successively provided the player wins the earlier hand. All four hands are dealt simultaneously and the payment for all four is deducted from the player’s balance. Only the first hand is initially exposed. The player plays this hand in the normal manner. If he fails to get a winning combination in the first hand then he loses the entire wager. The winning combinations are defined in the payout table, which differs from variant to variant.

If the player succeeds in getting a winning combination in the first hand then the second hand is exposed and the player proceeds with that in the normal manner. The amount won in the first hand as per the payout table is held in abeyance. If the player fails to get a winning combination in the second hand then he is at the liberty to either collect his accumulated winnings or stake them in a double or quits gamble game. In the gamble game five cards are dealt with the first card exposed. The player has to pick from one of the face down cards. If that card is higher ranked than the face up card the winnings are doubled otherwise the player loses his staked amount.

If the player seats in getting a winning combination in the second hand he receives doubled payouts that are added to his balance from the earlier rounds. In this way the player plays the third and fourth rounds that offer payouts at 4x and 8x the payout table respectively. Anytime the player loses or if he wins at all four levels he has the option of playing the gamble game.

Level Up video poker games have two features that make the play more interesting. One is known as the Free Card Rides. The free card may be randomly awarded at the beginning of any level. If this happens then the player will progress to the next level even if he fails to draw a winning combination. However, there will be no payouts at that level. The other feature is known as Auto Complete Royal Flush. If players lose out in the earlier levels they cannot play the higher levels. It is conceivable that in one of the higher levels the player is dealt a Royal Flush. In that event the player’s opportunity loss is significant. Hence a small compensatory payout is offered if the player has been dealt a Royal Flush in a level that he cannot play.

Level Up video poker games allow players to choose two betting parameters. One is the coin dimension and the other is the number of coins per hand. If the player chooses the maximum of five coins per hand then the payout for the Royal Flush is a jackpot payout.

The Level Up video poker games can be played at all Microgaming online casinos such as Platinum Play, Blackjack Ballroom, River Belle, All Slots and Spin Palace.
