Progressive Online Casino Jackpot Networks

December 17, 2008

Many people play at online casinos for the chance of winning the life-changing payouts that often run into millions of dollars. Progressive jackpot networks provide such opportunities. A part of each wager is set aside and the pot keeps on accumulating. When a player hits the triggering event he receives the entire amount standing in the jackpot at that time. More than 90% of the progressive jackpots in online casinos are in slots. It is little wonder then that all online gaming software providers develop and promote their progressive jackpot slots with special care. Online gaming suppliers link each progressive game in all their online casinos by a network. Hence wagers on a game at any online casino add to the jackpot. This concept of networking progressive games has made it even more interesting.

Microgaming is the leader in online gaming software and offers 21 progressive games, most of which are online slots. They have paid out over $250 million since inception. The largest single payout on the Internet has been for the progressive jackpot of the Microgaming slot Mega Moolah, which paid out over $5.5 million in April 2008. Currently Mega Moolah stands at $4.79 million and the total value of all Microgaming jackpot networks stands at $7.32 million.

Cryptologic has about 40 progressive games in its portfolio. However the amounts do not go as high as the Microgaming progressives because these are programmed to hit more often. The highest progressive jackpot currently on is Millionaires Club, which is just under $500K. In a sense Cryptologic has gone one step ahead of Microgaming. Not only is the jackpot shared across online casinos but it is also shared across online slots as well. For example the Marvel Comics based progressive slots share a common jackpot.

Playtech offers 11 progressive jackpot networks. Its most popular online slot game is Beach Life that has registered a single hit of $4.2 million. Wizard Gaming is a new online gaming service provider, with just two online casinos to its name. It has introduced two progressive slots, Trust Fund Baby and Opulence, just a few months back. There have been no hits on these progressive slot games.

Real Time Gaming (RTG) is another popular and reputed online gaming software provider. Prior to the Kentucky fiasco the Microgaming progressive jackpot network was the most popular in the United States. But after that Microgaming and its online casinos were forced to pull out of America. This gave a fillip to RTG. A lot of traffic was drawn to its progressive jackpot networks. RTG offers about 50 progressive networks but few are of the stature of Microgaming progressives. Its best games are Jackpot Pinatas and Shopping Spree. Jackpot Pinatas network stands at just over a million dollars. The jackpot is hit when five bull piñata symbols appear in a winning payline.
