Gambling Online Magazine Awards 2008

April 1, 2009

The Gambling Online Magazine Awards for 2008 have finally been announced. The awards are given in four major groups – poker, sportsbook, casino and others. These awards are considered very prestigious because they are only awards in which the players’ votes decide the winners. This is the 8th year of the awards.

The Gold winner for the Top Casino was 888. 888 had won this award in 2007 as well and had won the Silver award in this category in 2005 and 2006. The number ‘8’ is lucky in some cultures and this has rubbed off on 888. In 2008 the Silver winner for the Top Casino was 32Red. 32Red polled about 75% of the votes received by 888.

The Gold winner for the Best Casino Software was Cryptologic. Cryptologic has been winning this award since 2005. Earlier in 2003 and 2004 it had won the Silver award in this category. One of the major achievements of Cryptologic in 2008 was integrating its games on proprietary platforms of other online casinos. In 2008 the Silver award for Best Casino Software was won by Playtech. There was not very much difference between the votes polled by the two online gaming software providers.

The Gold winner for the Best Casino Customer Service in 2008 was Bet365. Knowledgeable support staff and quick response to queries were the reasons that Bet365 won this award. Only marginally behind was Littlewoods. Bet365 also won the Gold award for Top Sportsbook this year.

The Gold winner for the Best Slots Site in 2008 was Jackpot Joy. Jackpot Joy had also won this award last year. The Silver winner in this category was 32Red. 32Red polled about 80% of the votes received by Jackpot Joy.

The Gold winner for the Top Blackjack Site in 2008 was Blackjack.com. Blackjack.com also won this award last year. Their newly designed web site enabled them to stay ahead of the competition. The Silver winner in this category was 888. 888 polled about 75% of the votes received by Blackjack.com.

The Gold winner for the Top Mobile Casino in 2008 was Lady Luck’s. Lady Luck’s has over 320,000 subscribers in the United Kingdom alone, offers the complete range of mobile games and runs on the Probability platform. The Silver winner for Top Mobile Casino was WildJacks. There was not very much difference between the votes polled by the two mobile casinos.

Two special awards were given. The Gold winner for Top Innovation was Jadestone. Jadestone introduced new dice games that have taken the online gambling world by storm. And the Gold winner for Hall of Fame was Doyles Room. This is the online poker room of the 75 year young legendary Doyle Brunson who has 10 WSOP bracelets to his credit.
