Customizing Online Casino Gaming Environment

August 5, 2009

Each online player is different. Each has different needs and objectives. Therefore online gaming software providers build in several options into their software that allow the player to customize the gaming environment to his liking. Some of these options are discussed in this article.

All online gaming software providers offer the option to play the game in the full screen mode or in the Windows mode. In the Windows mode the game screen is smaller and the Windows toolbars and menu bars are displayed. This is useful to players who are doing some other work on their computers while playing the games. It makes toggling between the two much easier. However those players who are playing the casino games in a dedicated manner would prefer the full screen mode. It not only gives them larger images but removes the intrusion of the toolbars from the screen.

Sound options are important in customizing the playing environment. All casino games can be played mechanically, especially by expert players. Such players may like to listen to their favorite music while playing. It would suit these players to turn off all the sound options and plug into their own music. However there are other players who want to replicate live casino experience to the extent possible. Online gaming software creates this realism through various sound options. One of these simulates the sound of the rolling dice or the cards being dealt or the reels spinning in slot games. Another simulates the announcements that dealers in live casinos make such as "place your bets" or "no more bets". The dealer’s voices also announce the outcome of the games, for example the number called in roulette. The software also provides some background music when the game is idling. The best part of the sound options is that they do not come as an all or none package. The players can enable or disable the different types of sound options individually.

Another important option is customizing the speed of the game. Usually online casino games are animated so as to create a live casino experience. Craps games actually show the dice rolling across the table and roulette games show the wheel spinning. Whereas this adds to realism it slows down the game because it takes time. Online gaming software offers an option of turning off these animations for those who are impatient or want to get in more games in a limited time. With the animation turned of the reels in slot games do not spin but the final outcome is instantly displayed. With the animation enabled the software usually provides a number of game speeds. New players like to play the game slowly, maybe for savoring the experience or because they need more time to figure out what is happening. Hence they can opt for the slowest game speed.

All online gaming software providers offer an auto play feature in casino games like slots and roulette where players do not take a decision after placing their wagers. This eliminates the inconvenience of placing the same wager and reactivating the game again and again. Today the auto play features are highly customizable. The players can allow the auto play to run through the set number of spins. However many players would like to stop playing if they win a certain amount, maybe by hitting a jackpot in slots. Or they would like to limit their losses to a specified amount. These conditions can be incorporated in the auto play feature.
