Cryptologic Craps Free Odds Bet

Craps is one online casino game in which players have to choose their bets very carefully. This is because there are a large number of bets that have absurdly high house edges. One of the most favorable bets is called the Pass Line bet. This bet has a house edge of only 1.4%. Cryptologic software offers a supplement bet to the Pass Line bet, which is known as Free Odds bet. This bet serves to reduce the house edge even further. Before understanding how the Free Odds bet operates, it is necessary to examine the underlying Pass Line bet.

The Pass Line bet is wagered by placing a coin in the band marked Pass Line on the craps layout. In Cryptologic craps the minimum amount that can be wagered on this bet is 5 credits. In the first roll, called the come out roll, if 7 or 11 are rolled then the bet automatically wins. If 2, 3 or 12 are rolled then the bet automatically loses. If any other number is rolled then that number is established as a point. In the subsequent rolls if the point is rolled before 7 then the bet wins, but if 7 is rolled before the point then the bet loses. The payout is 1 to 1. Based on the mathematical probability of winning the house edge is 1.4%.

After the point is established Cryptologic craps allows players to supplement the original Pass Line bet. The amount of the supplement bet can vary between the original amount and double of the original amount. For example if the original bet was 5credits the supplement bet can be between 5 and 10 credits. This supplement bet is known as Free Odds bet. The Free Odds bet offers you the payout that is equal to the mathematical payout without the casino keeping any house edge. Therefore the average house edge over the entire bet reduces from 1.4%. If the player wagers the minimum amount on the Free Odds bet the house edge can come down to 0.8%. On the other hand if the player wagers the maximum amount on the Free Odds bet the house edge can come down even further up to 0.6%.

The payout of the Free Odds bet depends on the point established. In Cryptologic craps this payout is indicated by a temporary text message that appears on the screen while the player is about to place the additional bet. If the established point is either 4 or 10 then the payout is 2 to 1. If the established point is either 5 or 9 then the payout is 3 to 2. If the established point is either 6 or 8 then the payout is 6 to 5.

In Cryptologic craps there is a text box on the top left of the screen in which the wins and losses of each bet are described so that the player, in particular the newbie player, can easily figure out the additions to or deductions from his casino balance. In this text box the wins and losses on the original bet and the Free Odds bet are shown separately to make it even more convenient for the player. However, players must note that Cryptologic does not use the term Free Odds for the additional bet. It uses the term Pass Bet Supplement. Not all online casinos offer the facility of the Free Odds bet in craps. Hence before wagering players must check out if this facility is offered or not.
